Where'd My Baby Go?

Today was Miss Ava's first day of "summer camp" offered through our local school district. I signed her in at the office and took her to her new classroom to drop off her lunch and her bag. She declined to hold my hand as we made our way out to the yard where dozens upon dozens of kids were already hard at play. We had taken about three steps onto the blacktop when she shouted, "Dylan!" as she spotted a familiar face from Kindercare. He said, "Oh no! Not yoooooooou!" and the chase was on. He took off toward the slides and she was right on his heels. Before I knew it I'd lost sight of her in the swarm of little people buzzing all over the jungle gym.
I felt a little sad that she didn't even look back to say goodbye, but I will sleep well knowing we have such a confident, outgoing little big-girl.
